Judging

Three Judge Panel

Judging Categories and Criteria

  • Presentation

The overall appearance of the band; i.e. look, style, stage presence, etc.

  • Musicianship

The skill and proficiency each player has on their instrument (in acapella groups, Voices can be.

instuments). Score is an average of  all the musicians (except a lead vocalist).

  • Vocals

The quality, i.e. pitch, tone and style, of lead vocals. Good back up vocals, especially harmonies

will earn bonus points. (see below)

  • Dynamics

An often overlooked element relating to a band's ability to play well at different levels of volume and

intensity, particularly how well the band transitions  between these dynamic levels in the same song.

  • Professionalism

The overall appearance, sound, audience interaction and command of the stage  throughout their

                performance.

Examples of issues considered in this category:

Do the songs flow smoothly from on to the next.

Do band members talk over each other in between songs.

Excessive audible tuning of guitars, and other noises.

         Other miscellaneous delays between songs

Starting late and/or playing well short-of or over their allotted time.

  • Music

Original & Cover Music is all acceptable, 50% of cover music must be played at Preliminaries & Finals.

  • Originality

The overall uniqueness of the band's sound style music and performance.

  • (Bonus Points)

Up to 5 bonus points will be given for the use of vocal harmonies.

Each category is worth 1-10 points in 1/2 point increments.

In the event of a tie, final score will be combined with preliminary score.

Submission Guidelines

To qualify for admission, bands must have a minimum of three members, and play their own instruments.

Acts that rely primarily on pre-recorded or electronically produced music will not be considered.

**All submissions must be accompanied by an audio demo in digital (mp3) form.  Demo must be between 3 -6 minutes in length and can be full songs or excerpts, and must contain at least some original material.  The quality of the recording, unless exceptionally poor, will NOT be considered in determining admission. Bands that submit demos will be considered above bands that do not. Remember; there are only nine slots available so once they are filled the demos will be a major factor in eliminating excess bands. So try to send something if you can.

Submit all demos to: battle@bucklondon.com
